I find it deeply disturbing that anyone would leave an abscess alone for a minimum of two months, especially without medication.

I had to have a tooth worked on a couple of years ago, and while I had my appointment pushed back I ended up spending close to a month on antibiotics to keep the pain and infection under control. Hated it, but hated it less than no care at all.

I hope your friend makes it through okay.
